The 16VC Vision for 2026: What We’re Building and Who We’re Backing
When we started 16VC, the goal was simple: build a new kind of early-stage venture platform designed for the next generation of founders.
The venture capital industry is changing. Startups are moving faster, AI is redefining how companies are built, and small teams can now create products that once required hundreds of employees.
Traditional venture models were built for a different era.
In 2026, we believe the best venture firms will look smaller, faster, more focused, and more transparent.
This is what we are building at 16VC.
Why We Started 16VC
16VC was created to support the next wave of AI and technology founders at the earliest stages of their journey.
Many founders struggle to raise their first check. Not because their ideas are bad, but because early-stage venture capital has historically been slow, bureaucratic, and concentrated in a few geographic hubs.
We believe the future of venture is global, founder-first, and community-driven.
At 16VC, our mission is to back ambitious founders building the next generation of AI and technology companies — often before anyone else notices them.
What We Learned in the First Phase
Since launching 16VC, we’ve spent hundreds of hours speaking with founders, evaluating early-stage startups, and building relationships across the global startup ecosystem.
A few patterns have become very clear.
First, AI has dramatically lowered the cost of building startups. Small teams can now launch products, reach users, and iterate faster than ever before.
Second, founders are no longer just builders. The best founders are also storytellers, community builders, and media creators.
Third, early traction is becoming easier to manufacture, which means investors need to look deeper than surface-level metrics.
These changes require a new approach to venture investing.
The 16VC Model
Instead of operating like a traditional venture fund, 16VC is structured as an early-stage venture platform.
Our model focuses on three core pillars:
Focused capital – investing at the earliest stages when conviction matters more than consensus.
Global reach – sourcing founders from anywhere in the world, not just major tech hubs.
Community leverage – building a network of scouts, operators, and founders who help discover exceptional startups early.
We primarily invest through SPVs, which allows us to remain flexible and support startups with the right amount of capital at the right time.
Our typical investments range from $250K to $2M at the Pre-Seed and Seed stages.
Our Investment Focus for 2026
The technology landscape is evolving quickly, but our focus for 2026 is clear.
We are particularly excited about startups building in the following areas.
AI Infrastructure
As AI adoption grows, the demand for infrastructure tools continues to rise.
This includes developer tools, model orchestration platforms, data pipelines, evaluation systems, and cost optimization layers.
Founders building the “picks and shovels” of AI will play a critical role in the next decade.
Vertical AI
Generic AI tools are becoming commoditized.
The real opportunity is vertical AI — systems built specifically for industries like healthcare, finance, logistics, legal, and manufacturing.
These startups combine domain expertise with AI capabilities to create deeply valuable products.
Developer Productivity
Developers remain the most powerful distribution channel in technology.
We are excited about tools that dramatically improve developer productivity, including AI coding tools, debugging systems, and infrastructure automation.
AI-Native Software
For the past 15 years, startups sold access to software.
In the next decade, many companies will sell outcomes instead of software.
AI-native startups can deliver results automatically rather than providing tools that users must operate manually.
This shift represents one of the largest opportunities in modern software.
The 16VC Goals for 2026
As we move into the next phase of building 16VC, we have several clear goals for the year ahead.
1. Back 20–30 early-stage startups
Our primary mission is to support ambitious founders at the earliest stages of company building.
2. Expand our global scout network
We believe the best founders are everywhere.
Our scout program helps us discover exceptional founders across emerging ecosystems around the world.
3. Build a founder-first venture platform
Beyond capital, we aim to provide founders with access to a network of operators, advisors, and early supporters who can accelerate their growth.
4. Increase transparency in venture
Many parts of the venture industry remain opaque.
Through writing, podcasts, and open conversations with founders, we want to make venture capital more understandable and accessible.
What We Look for in Founders
While markets and technologies evolve quickly, the qualities we look for in founders remain surprisingly consistent.
We look for founders who are:
Obsessive about a problem
The best founders are not casually interested in their ideas — they are deeply committed to solving them.
Technically strong or product-driven
In the age of AI, product speed matters more than ever.
Fast learners
Markets change quickly, and founders must adapt faster than their competitors.
Clear communicators
The ability to explain a complex idea simply is often a sign of deep understanding.
A New Generation of Startups
We believe the next generation of startups will look very different from the last.
Teams will be smaller.
Products will ship faster.
AI will automate large parts of company operations.
And founders will increasingly build audiences alongside their products.
The startups that succeed will not just build software.
They will build systems, platforms, and communities around their products.
Working With 16VC
If you’re building an early-stage AI or technology startup, we’d love to hear from you.
We typically invest at the idea, pre-seed, and seed stages, often before traditional venture firms become involved.
If your startup aligns with our investment focus, you can reach out to us with a short introduction, product demo, or early prototype.
Great companies often start as simple ideas shared with the right people at the right moment.
Looking Ahead
The next decade of technology will likely create more startups than any period in history.
AI has dramatically expanded what small teams can accomplish.
This means more founders, more experimentation, and more opportunities to build meaningful companies.
At 16VC, our goal is simple:
Find the founders building the future — and support them as early as possible.
2026 is just the beginning.
