đ You Might Be a Founder IfâŠ
by 16VC | A Diagnostic Tool for the Chronically Overcommitted
Letâs be honest:
Founders are a special breed.
You donât choose startup life because itâs easy.
You choose it because something deep inside you said:
âSleep is optional. Letâs disrupt this thing.â
So here it is:
Your official, semi-scientific, definitely sarcastic checklist.
â
You Might Be a Founder IfâŠ
Youâve Googled âhow to raise pre-seed without a productâ more than once
Your calendar looks like Tetris played by someone in crisis
Youâve sent investor updates at 1:49AM and called it âstaying leanâ
Youâve taken a call from the bathroom and closed the deal
Youâve pitched your startup at a wedding (bonus points if it wasnât yours)
You think 3 hours of sleep counts as âa solid nightâ
You tell people youâre âin stealthâ but really just havenât built anything yet
Youâve eaten string cheese for breakfast, lunch, and âfounder dinnerâ (aka more string cheese)
You think âday offâ is a French phrase youâve forgotten
Youâve said âweâre building in publicâ because you forgot to make a private Notion page
You once yelled âweâre pre-revenue ON PURPOSEâ
Youâve updated your pricing page more times than youâve talked to your mom this month
Youâve used ChatGPT to write your pitch⊠then used it again to edit your tweet thread about writing your pitch
Youâve had at least one full existential crisis during a Stripe integration
Youâve replied âweâre raising soonâ since 2022
Youâve used memes in a pitch deck. Unironically.
You wear your startupâs hoodie more than actual clothes
Youâve started calling your co-founder âbroâ regardless of gender
You believe âresilienceâ is code for âI havenât cried today⊠yetâ
đ§ Why This Is Totally Normal
Being a founder is 80% improvising, 10% convincing others itâs intentional, and 10% wondering if youâre the problem.
Spoiler: youâre not.
(Okay, maybe sometimes. But itâs build character level.)
If this list hit a little too close to home â congrats.
Youâre doing it right. Or at least⊠youâre doing it.
And in this game, thatâs already rare.
đ Final Thoughts
You might be underfunded.
You might be tired.
But youâre out here trying to bend reality into a product.
Thatâs heroic. And a little unhinged.
Keep going.
